Dice Mode

  • Reading up on dice mode I found this : "Checking the box on dice mode activates an alternative way to determine the dice rolls. The dice rolls aren´t fully random anymore and more predictable. We are using two decks of cards each including 36 cards (normal distribution of dice rolls with two dice) and shuffle them. We take 18 cards each from the decks and put them together for a new 36 card deck. Each turn the top card gets picked."

This however is not the case ... given this table
    Roll------Freq------Max 72--Max Catan 72---Catan 72
    2-------------1-------------2-------------------4---------------2
    3-------------2-------------4-------------------8---------------2
    4-------------3-------------6-------------------12-------------7
    5-------------4-------------8-------------------16-------------8
    6-------------5-------------10-----------------20-------------14
    7-------------6-------------12-----------------24-------------14
    8-------------5-------------10-----------------20-------------9
    9-------------4-------------8-------------------16-------------5
    10-----------3-------------6-------------------12-------------4
    11-----------2-------------4-------------------8---------------6
    12-----------1-------------2-------------------4---------------1
This method is ludicrous as you could in theory dispose of all 8's combinations by throwing away 36 cards/rolls out of the combined 72 card stack. Over 72 cards you should not be able to get an odd number as the deck has been played two times. The 4, 8, 9 and 12 came up in an odd number of times which should be impossible if the same deck is played twice.

Given the result of Catan 72 the original stack of 36 contained:
Roll --- Number of cards / Possible max
    2-------------1 / 2
    3-------------1 / 4
    4-------------3.5 / 6
    5-------------4 / 8
    6-------------7 / 10
    7-------------7 / 12
    8-------------4.5 / 10
    9-------------2.5 / 8
    10-----------2 / 6
    11-----------3 / 4
    12-----------0.5 / 2
