How to recconect to the game in progress?

The topic name says it all, how do i recconect to a game in progress that i had to abandon due to game not allowing me to do any actions?
i've seen people saying that you should get a pop up offering a reconnect but i have never seen one, is there any other way of recconecting or am i destined to lose ELO and karma every third game?
