New Player to Catan here, I want to play a multiplayer game without an expansion, why is this not possible?

It claims I can't play multiplayer without using one of the expansions. I'm rusty enough with the base game, is it possible to open this feature up for new players like I so we can learn?

If not already done, click on the shop (upper right corner of the screen) and unlock the content you like. During the early access all content are free of charge. Make sure that you unlocked at least the basegame, otherwise you only will be able to join a quickmatch.

Ah i see. I assumed the base game was already purchased with the signing up with the game. That produced some confusion
